Helpful Information
Who made this site?
A homeschool parent who homeschooled in Whatcom County, WA from kindergarten level through high school graduation. This home-based business was born out of love for homeschooling. We're crazy about it.
Can I get my own county listed on this site?
Yes! (and at present, only if your county is in the USA, but we promise to change that by 2012) Request to add your county here.
How do I register / join?
You do not need to register/join to respond to items posted for sale. Peruse the site and find books and great stuff that will help you homeschool!
You must register/join in order to post items for sale.
Often times, when first created, a county will be allowed free registration for a period of time. After this initial period, registration costs $1 per adult - a one-time cost*. This is a teensy weensy amount per adult to help cover the cost of a 100% moderated site. Children under 19 may always be added for free. Children do not need to be registered nor logged in, in order to view items for sale nor respond to items for sale. However, they will not see all available options/videos/animations/games/contests/pages of the Mommatown system, nor will their use of the site be restricted, unless they are logged in to their own account. Parental users have rights over child users to set certain permissions for each account.
* To reiterate & clarify details of registration cost: 1 parent would register for $1, a one-time cost. A second parent may also register for $1. All children of the family under 19 may be added at any time for free. Once a child reaches 19, he/she is considered an adult and if he/she desires to continue posting items for sale or continue viewing all site content, he/she must pay for an adult registration of $1. All data belonging to their former child account will be retained. This is not an annual fee. It is a one-time fee. This amount could go up in the future. Register now to get in on this great deal. Register here.
How do I post items for sale?
All registered users may post items for sale. After you register or log in, you are given the opportunity to post.
How do I obtain the item / pay for the item(s)?
Sellers and buyers could choose to meet in a public place, or before a local homeschool meeting (if your county has them) to exchange. Of course, you could ship also, if both parties agree. Obviously, caution should always be exercised concerning allowing strangers to have your home address, whether for a meet-up or a shipment. Payment is handled however the seller and buyer agree; cash, check, Paypal® or barter. When you have found an item you are interested in, click the "inquire" link to make sure it is still available and work out how it might be paid for and obtained.
How is this site moderated?
Every new post, and every edited post, is approved or rejected by the Mommatown team. We reserve the right to refuse any post or any image for any reason. We would like to be gracious, seek to be cautious, and unashamedly moderate this site to the best of our ability. If our team allows a post that you find objectionable, please use a "report" link and speak your mind. No website links are allowed in for-sale posts. This way, children (who are logged in) will not be clicking links to other sites and possibly getting into areas of the web that are not safe. Parental accounts may set permissions for kids to see, or not to see, advertisements. Hey, some parents want to completely control the surfing ability of their small children, while others do not. This site can handle either desire.
Your account page will list all of your posted items and allow you to update any item. If, for some reason, a posting was rejected by our team, there will be a note for you, so that you may edit your post, that it might become acceptable. We reserve the right to block / rescind membership of any malicious or troublesome or suspicious user, without a refund of registration.
Children who are registered may post items for sale, and may respond to buyers at your discretion. Parental accounts have the ability to allow / disallow many actions and give or take away permissions to child accounts at any time. Typically, if a child is allowed to post a "product" for sale, the parent account is set to receive all messages from interested parties. You will not be assigned an email account. You will be able to set your account so that product inquiry messages from our system will be delivered to your email account of choice, or to retain messages on our system so that you only see them when you log in. Your account will have a seller name, which can be anything you wish, and is unique to each user. You may share this name with others. See your account for more details on privacy and other account options.
Can I report errors?
You may report errors, items that are marked as available but are no longer available, or anything you like. Just find a link on the page that allows you to "report". Sellers who continually neglect to mark items as "paid" may be given a warning to help them perk up and update their items list. Sellers who do not heed the warning or seem to be MIA and not responding to buyers' many inquiries may, after a number of "reports" are received, get a phone call to make sure they are alive. Hey, we all go on vacation, and forget to update our accounts from time to time. Grace is always given. Most of the time, Sellers do not neglect a SALE...cha-ching! But if push comes to shove, actions will be taken to weed out Sellers who drop from the site. One way to handle this is to simply hide all of their products until they respond to our inquiry. We will be happy to re-instate their products once they come back from Disneyland.
Can I advertise here?
Is it a home-based business operated by a child or an adult? Cool! Yes, you may post your business information here if you are a registered user. But hey - be sure your business is legal! Paying taxes? We highly recommend that you make sure that you are engaging in business legally according to the laws in your state. Hey, we used to sell eggs off our farm chickens. It's often as easy as "since we do not make more than "x" dollars per year, we can do this business from our home without reporting the income for taxes". Just find out! If the government asks for information about any business listed in our system, we are obliged to cooperate. Do you own a retail shop of some kind and want to inquire about banner ads? Yes, you can inquire of our advertising rates here.
If many members of our homeschool team / county register...
Can we use your system to send updates / announcements to our Homeschool Organization members? Yes! Inquire about this feature at any time. We can set up your "team name" and users who register in your county can opt-in to announcements from your organization. It may be a great way to gain new members for your organization. Can I send special product offerings to people in my area? We can allow users to opt-in to receive retail offers (via email or account notification) from us on your behalf, if they so choose, so that they may also opt-out at any time. We will never give you a list of email addresses. Contact us to inquire further about setting up your organization for this feature.
What is your privacy policy?
Your personal information is not ever shared with anyone by Mommatown Co. Weschool.org Post and Sell Forum is one leg of a larger community called Mommatown. Within the Mommatown system, you can allow certain accounts to have certain partnerships with your account (for instance, Uncle Ned wants to know what little Mike wants for Christmas, so set Ned's screen name as a "close-friend" so that he can see Mike's Christmas wish list). Buyers on the Post & Sell forum will be able to see your screen name only and may post messages to you within this system, without ever seeing your email address or any other information about you. If you choose at a later time to share your personal information such as your email address, mailing address or phone number with someone, it is your choice. At the point that you share your personal information, Mommatown is not liable for any damages that could happen as a result. Remember, non-registered users can see and reply to your for-sale posts. They may leave their email address or phone number for you to contact them. It is to your discretion to respond in the manner you deem suitable, at your own risk. Review our complete Privacy Policy
